Being Neurodivergent has its many challenges. It can be quite isolating at times, and some people often feel misunderstood, like they don't 'fit in' and can struggle to thrive in a world suited to their neurotypical peers.

For those of us on a diagnostic pathway, or those with a late diagnosis, there is a distinct lack of peer led support in the community; this needs to change before more and more adults and teenagers fall between the gaps in service.

Often overlooked because we 'appear' to 'function';  Neurodivergent adults and teenagers who are considered to have 'low support needs', often don't meet any criteria for support from existing services. This can have a detrimental impact on mental health and overall wellbeing.

All human beings see the world differently; we all react to things and experience situations in unique ways. Those of us who are Neurodivergent also see things differently, but our experiences are more significant, due to how information is processed within the brain; so our neurocognitive experience 'diverges' from what is viewed as being 'typical'.

The medical model views Neurodivergent people as being 'disordered' and to have deficits in terms of skills and abilities.  Statutory services and medical professionals don't always consider that it might be our environments that contribute to the challenges we face.  Pre and post diagnosis, there is very limited support available within our communities that isn't deficit model based.  Words and phrases are often used, but without education around what they mean.  People are often expected to figure things out alone and this can be traumatic, confusing and isolating.

We want to change that!  With our first-hand knowledge, professional skills and work experience, we offer Neuro-affirming education in our practice, with a focus on navigating diagnosis, exploring terminology, identifying feelings and emotions and celebrating difference.  We use a person-centred approach, using strength-focused language to avoid reinforcing stigma around Neurodivergence.  Our services are guided by Neurodivergent voices and we work with people in a way that suits individual needs and celebrates difference.

Neuro-affirming Education workshop

We are very lucky to to be working alongside Lissa, who is our in-house Neurodivergent BACP Accredited  Psychotherapist.  We believe that therapy should be accessible, neuro-affirming, and not be restricted to a short amount of sessions.  1-1 sessions can be arranged after an initial 45 minute, free consultation has taken place.

"I work from the understanding that there is no 'one right way' to think, feel, or experience the world.  As a Neurodivergent therapist and parent of Neurodivergent children, I bring both lived and professional insight into my practice. I offer a space where neurodiversity is recognised, respected, and supported—not pathologised or 'fixed'. My integrative approach means I adapt how I work to suit you. Together, we will create a therapeutic process that feels supportive, collaborative, and empowering—honouring your individual ways of processing, communicating, and making meaning. I aim to nurture your growth in ways that feel authentic and sustainable for you. I have a particular interest in later-in-life neurodivergent identification and diagnosis, and I work with an awareness of power, identity, and the wider social systems that shape our experiences. This includes exploring the impact of gender, inequality, and cultural expectations on wellbeing, relationships, and sense of self. As a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, I am committed to offering an inclusive, affirming space for people of all genders, sexualities, and relationship styles. I offer sessions online and from my own comfortable, private space, creating a calm and confidential environment where you can explore whatever brings you to therapy."
